The Vinton-Shellsburg boys 4 X 200 relay team (Tyler Bartz, Jordan Womochil, Nick Hyland and Joel Barnes) set a new Wamac West indoor record at the Coe College track in Mount Vernon on Saturday.

The relay team, which finished 6th at State last year, completed the race on Saturday with a time of 1:33.89, .11 seconds faster than the previous indoor record.

“We had lots of people do well,” says Coach Aric Chvala.

Blake Patterson won the shot put with a distance of 48 feet, 8.5 inches.

Bartz won the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 9.5 inches, 8.5 inches further than the second-place jumper.

The 1600 distance medley relay team (Cole Garwood, Womochil, Cole Smith, and Cole Tharp) finished in first with a time of 3:58.67.

The 4 x 400 relay team earned the Vikes another first place medal, with a time of 3:34.96. Those runners were Bartz, Blake Bohnsack, Barnes and Hyland.
