This time of year is a busy one for high school athletes. The State wrestling tournament wrapped up over the weekend, and the State Bowling Meet is under way in Des Moines today.
Tonight, the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings Basketball team travels to Mount Vernon for its first-round district game. The winner will play the Benton-CPU winner for the District title and will advance to the Sub-State game at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
Benton plays CPU at 6:30 p.m. in Mount Vernon. The 14-7 Vikes play the Mustangs (15-6) at 8 p.m. tonight. The two winners will play Thursday at a site to be determined later. The Sub-State game takes place next Monday, Feb. 29.
VS wrestlers, basketball players, bowlers and the Drama Dept participants received recognition during a pep assembly Wednesday at VSHS.
Bowling results will be posted HERE on the Iowa High School Athletic Association page when the tournament is complete. The VSHS boys team is competing, and Vikette Alyssa Bunge is bowling in the individual tournament.
