In the first ever head-to-head match-up the Vinton-Shellsburg Viking swimmers travelled to Williamsburg Thursday night and defeated the Raiders 106-50 in a battle of the only two WaMaC schools with swim programs.

The Vikings turned in strong performances across the board in capturing ten of the eleven events at the meet. Individual winners were senior Caleb Kruckenberg (50 and 100 Free), junior Ryan Levis (100 Butterfly and 100 Breast), junior Ben Eden (200 Individual Medley), Sophomore Tyler Hekel (100 Back), and freshman Isaac Lindauer (500 Free).

The Vikings started the evening off with a win in the 200 Medley Relay by Sophomore Tyler Hekel, Juniors Ryan Levis and Alex Dick and Freshman Isaac Lindauer. The team also captured first in the 200 free relay (Levis, Alex Dick, Dylan Geater and Kruckenberg) and completed the sweep with a meet-ending win in the 400 Free Relay (Kruckenberg, Lindauer, Thomas Osborn and Geater).

In the course of the victory the rapidly improving Viking squad registered another 25 personal best times. Leading the way were Eden, Levis, Dick, and Thomas Osborn with three new top times each.

The Vikings return to the pool Tuesday, January 19th for a double-dual with Oskaloosa and Williamsburg. The final home meet of the year will begin at 4:45 pm and will include senior night recognitions.
