The Vikette cross country runners perform their team cheer after arriving at the school.
Both Viking and Vikette cross country teams advanced to State after Thursday's successful meet.
Congrats to both the girls and boys Vinton-Shellsburg cross country teams on earning a trip to State!
The Vikettes Girls placed 2nd overall (they missed 1st place by 2 points).
Lily Horst was 2nd, Gracie Horst 4th, and Bristi Gerber, 8th.
The Boys placed 3rd overall; Cole Tharp was 7th, Jonah Blix, 13th.
The team arrived in Vinton at Thursday night, escorted by the law enforcement and fire vehicles. Fans gathered near the fire station to welcome the team and congratulate the runners and Coaches John Frazier and Jeff Mangold on their success.
The top 15 runners in each qualifying meet advance to state as individuals; the top three teams advance as a team.
The girls run at the State Meet at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge at noon next Saturday, Oct. 31; the boys, at 12:30.
