Sports : Vikings travel to Benton to begin District baseball action

Iowa high school baseball teams begin their post-season this week. The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings will compete in the Class 3A, District 10 grouping, which includes Benton Community, South Tama and Union. The Vikings and Bobcats play at 5 p.m. on Friday; the Trojans and Knights play at around 7 p.m.

The winners will play for the district title at 7 p.m. on Monday. The winner of that game will advance to the Sub-State game vs. the District 9 winner in Williamsburg on Wednesday, July 22. District 9 includes Williamsburg, Clear Creek-Amana, Washington and Grinnell. The winner of the July 22 contest advances to the State Tournament. The Vikings last reached State in 2009.
