Editor's Note: Lauren Tandy finished 11th at the State Golf Meet, June 1-2 at the American Legion Course, Marshalltown. VS girls coach Janet Woodhouse shared this summary with us:
Weather: pleasant
V-S contender, Lauren Tandy, qualified for the State Golf Tournament in 4A at Regional Golf in Waverly on May 26. Lauren played strong rounds both days. Day one she shot 43, 47 and was in 15th place. Day two she shot 43, 46 and moved up to 11th place. She missed a 10th place medal by one stroke!
Both days Lauren played solid golf. She had attended State two years ago and supported her team mates who were competing, Natalie Ketchen and Erin Randall, so she knew the kind of experience she would have. There are many more spectators than a high school golf meet. You are competing against the best, so the atmosphere is up several notches. She met the challenges well. If she had an errant shot, she recovered well, remarkably well. I was very pleased for Lauren. Her preparation before the tourney and her skills and determination paid off. She had an excellent two day total of 180.
We were pleased by the number of family, friends and golf pro Pat Zedrick who were there to support her. What a way to cap off a great year of Vinton-Shellsburg high school golf!
Next week four V-S golfers will attend the State Coed meet in Webster City, Iowa on June 9. They are Lauren Tandy, Kaiti Kilpatrick, Tyler Stueck and Danel Janssen.
