Sports : VS boys track team wins big in Viking Invitational

Warrn Rouse won the JV 110M hurdles event and placed in the varsity shot put.

Blake Bohnsack tied for 7th in the high jump.

Jordan Barnes and Tyler Bartz finished first and second in both the 200 and 400 events.

Cole Garwood earned points for the Vikes with his discus toss.

The Vinton-Shellsburg boys track team jumped from 18th to 4th in the Class 3A power rankings after its convincing win Thursday in the Viking Invitational. The Vikings scored 154 team points to win the seven-team contest. Marion was second with 121 points.

Those finishing first for VS included: Joel Barnes, 200 M and 400 M (Viking Tyler Bartz finished second in each of those events); Derek Dinderman, 800 M; the 4 x 100 relay team.

The Vikes scored team points (finishing in 6th place or better) in all but one event.

In individual scoring, Bartz led the team with 24 points; Barnes recorded 20.
