The Vinton-Shellsburg United Special Olympics basketball program put on a strong performance Saturday at the 2015 Iowa Winter Games the University of Iowa Fieldhouse in Iowa City. In all, VSU came back with with a pair of gold medals, a silver and two strong fourth-place finishes along the way. The male 5-on-5 basketball brought home gold with three wins in three tries. That team included Rodney Uthoff, Tyler Clark, Jimmy Mull, Patrick Reilly, Jeremiah Rogers, Justin Shaw and Cody Young. In addition, Beau Vinton added a gold in the skills competition. Jonathon Kruse added a silver in skills competition, while Leyton Aldrich was fourth in skills, along with the girls' 3-on-3 team of Melissa Young, Amanda Covington, LaVenus Mull and Nickole Bascom. The VSU team now moves into track season. Their regional meet will be April 11 at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, with the State meet coming up May 21-23 at Iowa State University in Ames
