Sports : Former Viking Cornell earns win for No. 25 Taylor in Florida

Former Vikette Maddie Cornell tossed a complete game shutout for her first W of the college season.

Former Vinton-Shellsburg standout pitcher Maddie Cornell earned her first win of the 2015 season this week, as her Taylor University Trojans defeated Northwood in Florida.

Cornell, the daughter of Dave and Kelly Cornell of rural Vinton, pitched a complete game shutout. She is a sophomore at Taylor, which is located in Upland, Ind. Although her team lost the first game in which she pitched (after giving up five unearned runs in one inning), Cornell has an ERA of zero after two games.
