The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings 2014 football season includes a long and challenging road schedule. The first three of the Vikings four away games are against ranked opponents.

The road trips begin this Friday, as the Vikings travel to South Tama. Although they won just three games last year, the Trojans are much improved, says Viking coach Jim Womochil. The Trojans trounced 2013 playoff team Grinnell last week, 34-7. In the first AP poll of high schools, the Trojans were ranked 14th in Class 2A.

On Sept. 19, the Vikings travel to West Delaware, which is ranked fourth after a first week win over Western Dubuque by a 40-14 margin.

Then on Oct. 10, the Vikings travel to Waverly-Shell Rock, which was tied for sixth in the first AP poll. WSR opened its season with a 31-13 win over Waterloo West.

The final away game is against Clear Creek Amana on Oct. 17. The Clippers opened with a 10-7 double-overtime loss at Center Point-Urbana last Friday.

JG September 3, 2014, 12:36 pm We have a great set of young men this year, that can beat any team if they play with all they have. Every team is beatable we just need to believe in our guys and they need to believe in themselves. And we can go all the way to the playoffs. Good luck to all of them this year and we are all behind you 110%! I love these boys.
