Alumni softball:Ashley Strong got a faceful of dust, but scored to help the black team win.
The second annual Vinton-Shellsburg Alumni Softball game took place on Saturday night at Thole Field, where the Vikettes play their home high school games.
The Black Team jumped to a quick 6-0 lead, scoring five runs in the first before anyone got out. But the gold team rallied for the lead, 15-14. A ninth inning rally gave the Black team the lead, and they won the 10-inning game 16-15.
The third annual event takes place the first Saturday of August, 2015. Alumni from as far back as the 1980s joined recent graduates for a game of slow-pitch.
The event was also a fund-raiser for the current VS softball program.
