Sports : Vikings end season with heart-breaking District loss, 3-2

Ahead of Clear Creek-Amana, 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Vinton Shellsburg Vikings allowed two runs and ended their season on the short end of a 3-2 score in the District championship game.

Sophomore pitcher Tyler Rippel held the Clippers to two earned runs; he also had a productive game at the plate, scoring both of the Vikings' runs.

Game summary from Coach Jim Struve:

CCA had a solo HR in the 2nd inning. We tied game in the 4th inning. Tyler Rippel reached on fielder's choice and RBI single by Logan Davis. 6th inning- Rippel 2 out single Conner Miracle courtesy runner got to 3rd by single by Scottie Wirth and a base on balls by Logan Davis. Nathan Struve hit a go ahead RBI single To score Miracle for a 2-1 lead.
Bottom of 7th inning- lead-off double and scored on double by 2nd batter. Got an out by a sac bunt and walked next kid. Winning run scored on sac fly.
CCA made 2 great defensive diving catches in outfield to save a couple runs and they earned their runs by making big hits in the 7th inning.
