Sports : Winter sports season winding down; Neal 8th at State Wrestling Meet

The Vinton-Shellsburg athletic department is winding down its winter sports season.

The boys basketball loss at Xavier on Monday ended the hoops season.

Two state events took place in the past few days. Michael Neal finished in 8th place at 152 pounds to be the only medalist for Vinton-Shellsburg at the State Wrestling meet.

At the State Bowling Tournament, VS junior Alyssa Bunge competed in the first year of the renewed VS bowling program. She bowled a 188/142 to total 330.

VSHS athletes now begin preparing for spring sports, including soccer, golf and track. Practices, however, seem likely to begin indoors due to the continued cold and snow.
