The Vinton-Shellsburg basketball teams played their local rivals last week, and both the Vikings and Vikettes came up short against Benton Community and Center Point Urbana.
The Benton boys defeated the Vikings by three in Van Horne on Thursday night, while CPU edged them by the same margin on Saturday in Vinton
The Vikes lost to Benton, 49-46, and to CPU, 51-48.
The Vikettes led Benton at halftime at home on Friday, but lost, 50-42. They traveled to Center Point on Saturday evening, where CPU won, 59-52.
Bethany Stainbrook led the Vikettes over the weekend, scoring 14 points in each game.
