Only three girls basketball coaches in Iowa history have led their teams to more wins than Harold Shepherd. The Vinton resident and long-time Vinton and Vinton-Shellsburg coach earned his 750th career win on Friday night with his current team.

West Delaware defeated Independence, 53-43, to earn Shep the milestone.

Only Gene Kling (1,001 wins with West Central of Maynard and Waukon), R.V. Mullen (938 wins with several teams including Maquoketa Valley) and Larry Niemeyer (871 victories with Adel and C.R. Jefferson) have more career wins among Iowa coaches.

Shep is by far the leading winner among active coaches, according to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. West Delaware improved to 6-2 on the 2013-14 season with the victory.
