Harold Shepherd's basketball team won at Vinton on Tuesday, something that happened hundreds of times over three decades.
But Tuesday's win was Coach Shepherd's first in Vinton leading an opposing team. His West Delaware Hawks jumped to an early 14-2 lead and outscored the Vikettes 24-9 in the third quarter en route to a 67-37 win.
Bethany Stainbrook led the Vikettes with 14 points; Chelsey Mier added 10.

The Vikettes are now 1-1 on the season heading into Friday's game at Williamsburg. The Hawks are 2-0 in Shepherd's fourth season at West Delaware.
