Facing a new style of offense they hadn't seen before, the Vinton-Shellsburg ninth grade football had to make some big adjustments and come from behind to win at West Delaware.
Coach Tony Stenberg shares the following report:
We defeated West Delaware 32-25 in come from behind fashion last night. Our first lead of the game came with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter and we were able to hold on for the victory from there on out.
West Delaware had a high-powered offense that was unique in that we hadn't seen anything like it at the 9th grade level this year. They passed the ball almost every down and had a quarterback that was very successful at doing it. We had to make some adjustments in the second half with our defense that allowed us to slow them down a bit and we were able to get a couple big stops down the stretch to allow us to take the lead.
Tanner Davis led the offensive surge with 3 touchdowns while Wes and Will Edwards had one each. It was a hard-fought win for our guys. I was proud of their effort and their ability to come from behind for the victory. It was a game in which our weak spots became apparent and will have to be corrected before we play a good Williamsburg team next Friday.
