Senior Taylor Leyden led off the game with a home one, and ended it the same way.
In between, he pitched all nine innings as the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings took Game 1 from Clear Creek-Amana, 4-3.
The extra-inning win was followed by a loss, as the Clippers came back to win Game 2, 9-7. A five-run first inning gave the visitors a lead they would never give up.
The Vikings return to action Thursday night, playing DeWitt Central in the Class 1A stadium of the Quad City River Bandits. They travel to Union Friday evening.
