Dear Editor,

Was the Affordable Care Act affordable?  I think that is a big NO.  So we have a
a shutdown over this.
Democrats need to admit ACA, Obamacare, is too expensive and fix it.  Instead, you  chose to vote "no" on the clear C.R., but the dems who were in safe seats did the right thing and voted "yes."
Enlisted military, air traffic controllers, and airport security will now be paid.  Dems. need to show courage over the leftist/Marxist and bring back the people's party.  America is stronger when both parties serve the PEOPLE.

SG November 14, 2025, 3:17 am Let's recap.
When Obamacare was dreamed up, we were told by Pelosi, "We'll have to pass the bill before you can see what's in it." If I remember correctly, even Republicans weren't allowed in the room.
Fast forward, to today. Those same democrats, because we don't believe in term limits, are screaming, "Republicans, FIX IT!"
The problem with entitlements is that once you hand them out, you can't take them back. Before this attempt at universal healthcare came into being, you could call the doctor and get in the same day. Now, you might get in in maybe a week or two. My doctor said they had to construct more room, just to do the required paperwork...that's government.
Before Obamacare, it was understood that it wasn't cheap, but now it's going to be "unaffordable" according to the democrats.
So whose fault is it? The democrats who invented the monster? Or is it the republicans who didn't vote for it, didn't dream it up, didn't create it?
Yet, in the mind of the democrat, it's on the republicans to "fix it." So you're implying that republicans are smarter and have better ideas because you obviously didn't...and like a whiny teenager, we're supposed to bail you out.
Democrats decided we needed universal care, not the Republicans.
I think you should come up with an affordable plan that taxpayers don't have to pay more for. Can't do it can you? Of course, you can't. The math won't math.
We heard Biden say he'd get lower drug costs.
He didn't.
Trump did.
I expect that Trump is now going to have a come to Jesus discussion with the insurance companies.
That will hold until we have a Democrat in office again.
Then we'll lather, rinse and repeat.
We could go universal care like Canada. They take the approach that when you're old, sick, suicidal, they'll help you end it. Is that really what you want? I have a friend in Canada. They come to the US for care. You know why? They can't get it in Canada. Their friends who are at the Canadian's mercy, are desperate for care. 2 year waits for surgery. Suffering and in pain? Their solution, end it.
I'll pass.
I don't know the answer, but accept the blame when you screwed the whole system up. John's right. Democrats are acting like spoiled teenagers. Just because they wrecked the car doesn't mean you should buy them a brand new one...
me November 14, 2025, 3:05 am I like that video of that guy crying about Obamacare and praising the ACA because that provided him with affordable insurance.

That's pretty much where we've been the entire time: cry cry cry cry and don't do a damn thing to fix it. Heck, I saw a video of a young man in a wheelchair, crying about the medical item his insurance wanted to provide, that darn Obamacare -- still won't believe that he only has private insurance because he's under 26 and lifetime caps were eliminated, and when he turns 26, if nothing changes, he'll be able to get his own insurance because "pre-existing conditions" are no longer a thing. But damn that Obamacare.

When all you MAGAts and Republicans hold your elected officials... the officials YOU voted for... to the longstanding promise of better, cheaper healthcare options, THEN I'll care what any of you have to say about Obamacare/ACA.
IK November 14, 2025, 12:59 am RB have you even considered not everyone wants universal health care? That's basically what Medicare is. When the government is involved in health care they become your doctor and can (and do) override your doctor's orders. Medicare can tell a diabetic how often a day you can check your blood glucose even when you're told to check it before and after meals. Now it's once a day if your not on insulin. They allow 30 test strips for 30 days and after that there's no more testing until the next month. I had several doctors tell me I needed oxygen at night and Medicare had me take test after test after test and repeated some of the tests again. I was so tired of waking up with a splitting headache every morning that I bought my own oxygen concentrator myself. I have secondary insurance, but if Medicare decides not to pay for something, neither does the secondary insurance. We did so much better with our regular health insurance, but we had to take Medicare. Universal (government) health care isn't as great as you may think.
CM November 13, 2025, 8:07 pm How long do we have to wait for Trump's concepts of a plan...when hell freezes over! Keep putting your head in the sand...
JS November 13, 2025, 3:28 pm Linsey, Braden
Wrong again.
The subsidy was paid directly to the insurance companies. Why not directly to the people? That is the flaw. This gives the money directly to Big Insurance; they have no incentive to lower costs.

Get it?

Can't fix Stupid.

RA November 13, 2025, 1:55 pm If the Affordable Care Act is truly affordable, why does it need government subsidies? It never was affordable and will never be. It needs to be fixed or replaced by something the law makers read and understand before they vote on it. I remember Nancy P.'s famous words when she said "We need to pass this bill so we can see what is in it." That was totally backwards.
DL November 13, 2025, 1:39 pm John, Since the day the ACA was passed, President Obama has been saying that it is a good start, but it needs to be fixed in some areas. It has been the R side of the chambers that have refused to even discuss fixing it, accept when it came to surviving a pandemic. That's 15 years spent looking the other way. If the bill was fixed, perhaps the subsidies wouldn't have been necessary at all.
RB November 13, 2025, 12:59 pm It’s the best option we have right now. We should be figuring how to offer universal health care. Trump said in 2017 the R’s are working on a health care plan. Only weeks away. Where is it John? The only mistake that needs to be admitted is voting for Trump knowing he is a criminal. Wait until the Epstein files are released! You’ll be so proud!
