Dear Editor,

What do today's news headlines tell us about the level of consideration and respect we have for the legitimate concerns of all those across the entire planet? Take equality among all of humanity for example. We have a long way to go before we, as humanity, come to not only realize, but put into practice, equality among ALL regardless of color, country, gender, economic status, etc. We desperately need to realize that all of us originated from the same tiny singularity, the same particle of matter/energy, which began to take shape at the dawn of creation 13.7 billion years ago. We were all ONE in the beginning!! We all came from the same vine. We need to, in all humility, acknowledge our connectedness with all. If we talk about disparity, according to Oxfam, the richest 10 people in the world own more than the combined wealth of the bottom 3.1 billion people. That bottom number is approaching 1/2 of the earth's population !! How did we allow that to happen?? Some how we lost sight of the plight of our neighbor. And the disparity continues to widen. One other point. Did we at our birth have a choice as to the color of our skin, our gender or what area of the earth we were to live, or whether we were born into a billionaire family or into a family whose total annual income is less than $1,000.00? No we didn't.
So, what are we to do? I don't have the answer, but here are some possibilities. We need to stop circling the wagons around countries, politics, race, gender, religion, wealth, etc. If we insist on circling wagons around something, we should consider circling our wagons around creation itself. We need to stop dead in our tracks and do some serious soul searching, to put our egos in check, to try walking in another's shoes, to contemplate our connectedness. This may sound naive. But will we as humanity advance unless we try ??

It has been my pleasure to call you friend. We should all take a step back and realize we come from the same gene pool. We need dialogue, not vicious rhetoric. Why are there so many incidents of violence? I don't have the answer, but Jesus and the Christian messages do.
