Opinion : Letter to the Editor: Trump brought it on himself

To The Editor,

I have bit my tongue over the last couple of years when a group of so-called no-it-all's have opined about those bad, bad Democrats and President Biden being the source of every problematic issue that arises. When someone tries to counter the lies exaggerations, and inaccuracies, they are met with vicious name-calling and insults.

For some reason, most of these same people have bought into the most unqualified, lying, reprehensible human being ever to grace our planet, one Donald Trump who has just been indicted the 4th time trying to overthrow our country's basic tenant of democracy, the vote of the people.

After all that has come out about his attempts to thwart the will of the voters, people still talk of hoax, a left-wing conspiracy to "get" Trump and placing blame on everyone and everything except the person who perpetrated the crimes, Trump. I am sure that most of the commenters on this page and Trump supportershave not taken the time to read any of the indictments. Why would they do that want to read them, when there is this hoax in New York, Washington D.C., Florida, and Atlanta who have all conspired in advancing these indictments for political persecution? Trump is the victim, don't you know?

Writers on this page would rather focus on the current President's son as if he was trying to overturn an election or something! I shouldn't have to remind the readers that it is the Trump clan who have grifted their way to millions while he sat in the Oval Office and beyond. Where is the outrage on that?

Those of us who have been paying attention, let's say for the last 20-30 years, knew what kind of person Trump is. If you recall, we tried to tell the Trump voters, but you would not listen. The entertainment of Trump clouded any rational view.

Our country stands at a precipice. Do we strengthen our democracy following the law and the Constitution putting no one person above our basic tenant's or do we let a lawless person who has no regard for anyone else beside himself tear away our democracy and damage it for the future?

Trump has done this to himself, no one else is to blame but we as citizens of this great country have the obligation to stand up for democracy. Look at him not as a patriot but a person willing to tear down our democracy for one thing, himself.

Now let the name-calling and insults begin. Just remember your words are more of a reflection on you that have anything to do with me or my opinions. Note, I do not hide behind initials. I am proud to sign my name. Can you say the same?

Joe is worse. No doubt he is a mean-spirited old man and has been that way his whole career and has been wrong on foreign policy during all of his congress and VP service. I'm not going to defend the man; I find him personally reprehensible. And we can debate his qualifications and how they stack up with the dementia patient puppet currently occupying space at the White House. But wow, worse than Hitler or Stalin? Pol Pot? Jeffery Dahmer? Worse than mass murderers and child molesters? Maybe just take a deep breath and think a little bit before you type.

How the Trumpers are always right and the Democrats are always wrong. I’m a lifelong Iowan and Democrat. I was raised to believe you look out for those less fortunate, give when you can, and respect your elders. I believe in God, the good things about Iowa (low crime, world class education, excellent healthcare, peaceful communities) and I’m a farmer’s granddaughter. I spent 40 years in my career caring for others. Yes, I’m a liberal. I believe more in doing right than being right. That being said, it’s hell living in a red state where my option tends to be mocked rather than respected.

I think it’s hilarious to investigate Hunter Biden and then turn a blind eye to Jared Kushner receiving $2 billion from Saudi Arabia shortly after Trump left office. Where is our own Senator Grassley, or Jim Jordan on that one?

If Obama would have done 1/100th of what that criminal Trump did all of you would be foaming at the mouth. You know that is true!. Four different grand juries indicted him? Not the Democrats! Not the Attorney General! Not Joe Biden! It’s time you wake up!

DE August 16, 2023, 4:44 pm Biden sucks, no doubt about it, but he sucks the three ways all politicians tend to suck: not criminally. The Ds managed to impeach Trump twice in four years - other than the ramblings of classic lunatics like Maggie 3Letters and Hoe-bert, the Rs can't seem to find enough on Biden to do more than try him in the tin-foil hat media.

And yet some individuals want to flip the discussion around to him rather than admitting they screwed up in voting for Trump rather than one of the his dozen rivals in 2016 (when they coulda/shoulda known what he was) & 2020 (when there was no doubt - it had been on open display for 4 years). And will probably vote for him again in '24 because Biden is "mean spirited" and 'bad' at foreign policy.

YOU insulting the intelligence of President Biden, is on a completely different level. You've been many places in this world, and maybe your age has hampered your intelligence some. But, you still have a small town intelligence. On average, an upper level intelligence, in a small town, is average among all of humanity. A K-12 school education is not all about filling a child's brain with information. It also includes, in a large part, teaching children how to learn and to seek out information. I don't think small town curriculum focuses very much, if any, on those latter two skills. And remember, the two letters that your cult leader loves to *judge* people with, IQ, doesn't represent a person's intelligence level. It only shows the person's level of ability to learn. A person with a high IQ doesn't just know everything there is to know, right out of the womb. That person just has a high capacity and ability to learn. If that person chooses to not focus on learning, they won't be as smart as they could be. On the contrary, a person with a lower IQ, that has a strong focus on school work, and applies themselves, can be much smarter than a person with a high IQ.
There are a higher percentage of pots in small towns, than there are kettles in the cities. I trust the pots and kettles from Delaware, that have continued to vote for President Biden, over the last 52 years.

GB August 16, 2023, 11:53 pm I find it very entertaining to read all the liberal comments defending the Biden Crime Family. Biden is running a clown show while building his personal wealth at the expense of all Americans. Trump has his faults. He personally insults his political rivals which I have never agreed with. Yet Hillary has been equally bad and divisive. Watching the weaponization of the Justice Department to prosecute political rivals makes us no better than Russia, China or Cuba. Hillary Clinton should have been indicted, tried and convicted and she wasn't. Biden should also be under indicted by his Justice Department for the classified documents he had removed and yet he hasn't been. That my friends is a double standard. One can argue rather or not Trump as President had the right to keep classified documents and yet no one can argue a Vice President had the same rights because they do not. Before anyone gets too happy about Trump being indicted, An indictment is a long way from a conviction. A pandora box has been opened by the Dems, they are going to howl when those chickens come home to roost in their own barn...

DL August 17, 2023, 7:00 am GB, make sure you keep listening to your cult leaders. One difference between Trump and Biden, with the documents issue. Biden turned in the documents he had. Trump turned a small portion in, a search warrant was executed to retrieve some more of them, and he still has some that he refuses to turn over.
What can't you get through your head about the Trump directed DOJ not finding anything to prosecute Hillary Clinton on? I can't believe you're still beating that dead horse. Also, there has been absolutely no evidence of President Biden having any type of criminality. Even though his son is having legal issues, and *might* end up in prison, the president is not guilty only by association. His son earned $7 Million from other countries, for some reason. So far, there's no proof that it was earned illegally. Jared Kushner got $3.1 Billion, in which 3% was from American donors. This money was for Kushner to establish a hedge fund. Jared Kushner has no prior experience with hedge fund management. He is set to make $60 Million/year, just for managing that money.
If you had a spare $3 Billion sitting around, would you trust someone to manage that, that has no prior experience in doing such?

Hunter Biden - $7,000,000

Where is the outrage for Kushner?

JS August 17, 2023, 4:53 pm Braden -- for all your academic studies I find you ignorant of unethical if not illegal behavior of certain politicians starting with Bill, Hillary, Barack, and now Joe. How do all these people start out in politics with basically nothing and end up multi-millionaires?? The Clinton Foundation got millions from foreign donors - why? were they expecting "pay for play" favors. Why would Hillary as Sec. State approve of the sale of Uranium One to among others - Russia. That is 20 % of our uranium reserves. Now we must import to fill our National needs. Oh and Lindsey same for you. So Trump has four indictment from four different jurisdictions. The goal is to find him guilty of a number felons so that the years pile up meaning he will die in prison. If he is guilty then he should be judged as so, but I don't see how he can get fair trial. It should be obvious to any reasonable on looker that the DOJ and FBI are hopelessly corrupt!
Biden -- I am not in "left field" but somewhere where a Classic Liberal would find themselves politically. Joe has been wrong on so many things. Calling one of the big bills Inflation reduction is a real joke on us taxpayers this was a bill to fund so called "Green Deal" or if you'd rather "renewable energy". Trillions in spending that the Nation does not have. And, Joe brags that inflation is gone - he believes this lie. Inflation is lower than the high of 8% but it is still too high. The cure is stop spending money the Nation does not have. Big Government is the Monster uncontrolled.
Six years of judicial hassle have not done Trump in; his ratings is still higher than the other hopefuls. I have many favorites (not naming) we will see you rises to the top. But you can be sure I will not vote for Biden/Harris. The Country can't stand another four years of incompetence.

Isn't anyone...regardless if you support Biden or not...worried about the estimated 6-11 million illegal immigrants in our country?

Have you seen them on the streets of our cities? The cities now resemble India and other poverty-stricken countries. The cities' landscapes have become dark and dreary and threatening.

People don't seem to grasp the truth. We will be paying for these people for the rest of their lives! There will never be enough jobs...enough housing...enough educational opportunities...enough free healthcare...and so forth. Resources that are being used for these illegals would be better spent on our poor...our seniors...our vets.

As long as President Biden is in the White House, his "Welcome Wagon" and "Open-Arms Policy" will allow more and more of these people to flood our nation. We now have more drug dealers, murderers, rapists, child molesters, and other unsavory types.

Is the United States of America still OUR great nation? This is a massive problem facing us, and it's NOT going away.

jt August 18, 2023, 3:54 pm All the doom and gloom over our immigration problems has been happening for decades. This is not a result of the Biden administration. The 6-11 million immigrants noted by PK has not happened in the year and a half that Biden has been in office. He inherited many of those millions. Our immigration policy is broken and has tried to be helped by executive orders through many different administrations. We need solutions that only Congress can pass and we all see how divided our legislative branches have become. Quit name calling, being afraid of the voters, and work together to actually solve this immigration issue. There have been many proposals over the decades, but no solutions which would take some compromise on both parties. I, sometimes, think the politicians want it to remain an issue because it becomes a campaign rally come election time every two years.
