I was only a Vinton resident for a bit more than a year.I, however, taught in the district for over 30 years and feel a strong connection to the community and its well being.

Recent events have concerned me. Vinton is worthy of growth, and all the surrounding communities, of which I am part, will profit by its growth.

That said, if leadership in the community fails to encourage inclusive participation, growth will be stunted. Recent events suggest that some parts of leadership have not been fully responsive to either Iowa law that requires gender equity in appointments and re-appointments to boards or to the optics of appointments that suggest family favoritism. These are issues that many levels of government struggle with.

That said, I would love to see the reconsideration the board has wisely planned reach decisions that favor the growth and progress which are fostered through inclusivity and diversity.

Change is hard, but without it growth is impossible.
