Letter to the Editor: A Person of Color

The so-called �squad� (Cortez, Omar, Tlaib, and Pressley) say they are people of �color�.

Well, I�m a person of color as well; particularly when I was out in the July sun all day cultivating corn � yep I was tan. When I took antibiotics that were light-sensitive I turned red in only two hours of work. So, yeah I�m a person of color too.

�White privilege� I don�t know what that means exactly, because I figured I have earned all the assets I have-yep I had to work for them. It seems the left Dems use name-calling when they can�t discuss issues - if they don�t have a good argument they play the �race card� or some other card to intimidate, shame or otherwise silence their opponent. They use slander as a silencing weapon, and the policies of the 20+ potential nominees are socialist/communist.

I am a freedom-loving American and want no part of that.

GB August 11, 2019, 5:23 pm Well Norma speaks that someone is somewhere out there not being treated fairly because of the color of their skin without giving facts. Well somewhere out there in the universe may be unicorns running around also.. please try to focus on facts and not assumptions..
Then the self-proclaimed expert on socialism and communism chimed in to demonstrate how smart they are when it comes to different forms of government while identifying themselves as a democrat. Then this mental giant couldn't just let that be enough, but made the assumption that Trump idolized Hitler!! Are you freaking kidding me??? The old saying proves right time after time... even a fool is thought to be smart until they open their mouth and remove all doubt... Proving they are just another misinformed citizen that really needs to touch up on their economic facts and world history.

NG August 3, 2019, 5:25 am Yes, you worked hard and deserved everything you have. If you went to the bank because you needed a loan you got that loan. When your children went to college they were admitted. There is also a black man out there somewhere who worked just as hard as you did but when he went to the bank for a loan he was told no and his children with all things being equal were not admitted to college. That is your white privilege.

JS August 2, 2019, 9:21 pm Medicare for all destroys private insurance. Thirdly all contract workers (union workers) lose their Cadillac insurance plans they negotiated instead of higher WII's. Free health insurance for illegals is socialism/communism. all workers and retired will see increases in taxes to pay for the "free stuff". All people who pay for private insurance will lose that tax deduction. High taxes are indeed a socialist program as it will be bureaucrats of the fourth state that will dictate what an individual will be able to have for their health care. The choice will no longer be that of the individual. --- Socialism. If the 20+ get there way socialism will be forced on the rest of us. That's where "liberalism is headed --- left left left!! And that's where Democrats are headed as well all one had to do was the "so called" Dem debates. Be careful what you wish for. You just may get it.

When you stumble and fall you become blue and red, yellow and purple. And you have a green streak . And you called us colored!

DL August 2, 2019, 5:18 pm Mr. Steigelmeyer, I think you should brush up on the parameters of Communism and Socialism. There's a huge difference between social programs, and a Socialist government. Although there have been many that have tried, no country, in the history of this planet, has successfully used a Socialist government. The Communist Soviet Union failed, mostly because the tried to incorporate too many Socialist policies within their Communist regime. The base factor in a Socialist government is that every person that is not a business owner is required to be paid the exact same hourly wage all throughout the country. That's the main factor in a Socialist government. THAT IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN HERE!
The United States of America will NEVER undertake a Socialist or a Communist government. Your cult leader is just instilling fear in you followers. Just like his idol, Adolph Hitler did. Those of us that call ourselves Democrats love the Constitution that makes our country what it is. Unlike the administration currently in charge of our country. Sir, do you know that our "president" has completely closed the section of our Department of Homeland Security Department that was responsible for full security of all large public gatherings in our country? Things like the Super Bowl, World Series, Concerts, Speeches, etc. Why would an American "president" put American citizens into pre 9/11 situations?
