SHELLSBURG: Jacob “Jake” Novak, 18 died Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Visitation: 3 – 7 PM, Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street, Vinton. Funeral Services will be held NEXT Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home in order for those involved in the accident to be in attendance. Jake was born June 12, 1994 in Cedar Rapids to Daniel Keith Novak and Diane Lynne Gulick. He attended Vinton-Shellsburg High School with the Class of 2012. Jake was currently working for Whirlpool Amana.

He enjoyed skateboarding, fishing and hunting and generally being outdoors. Jake also like to listen to his music and spend time with his family. He was a very respectful person and giving of himself, always putting the needs of others before himself.

Jake is survived by his parents, Diane Gulick and Dan Novak both of Shellsburg; his sisters, Jennifer Gulick of Swisher and Crystal Novak of Shellsburg; his nephew, Keegin Novak of Shellsburg; his grandparents, Keith Gulick of Vinton, Mary Bowser and John (Lois) Novak all of Cedar Rapids; several aunts, uncles and cousins and his special friend, Samantha Ary and her daughter Payten both of Shellsburg.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Bonnie Gulick and his grandfather, Bill Bowser.

Jake final act of giving was the Gift of Life by being an Organ and Tissue Donor through the Iowa Donor Network.
