SHELLSBURG: Clifford Eugene Carte, 79 died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center in Shellsburg. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton. Visitation will also be held from 6 to 8 PM on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Presbyterian Church in Green City, Missouri. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 PM on Monday at Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Green City, Missouri. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Green City, Missouri. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the King-Walker-Custer American Legion Post #365 of Green City, Missouri.
Clifford was born November 10, 1932 to Harry Vinson Carte and Elverine (Martin) Carte in Kirksville, Missouri. He served his nation in the United States Navy in the Korean War on the U.S.S. Lewis Destroyer Escort. After the Navy, he married Lela Knight and they were married for 35 years. Clifford worked 10 years at Iowa Man, 10 years at Penick & Ford and then worked for the Vinton Shellsburg School District as a bus driver or “angel hauler” as he called it for 17 ½ years. He was a member of the Ray and Virginia Boyer American Legion Post #116 in Shellsburg and in his leisure enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his three sons, Dennis (Pam) Carte of Green City, MO, David (Kris) Carte of Atkins, IA and Kevin (Barb) Carte of Williamsburg, IA; two daughters, Cathleen (Dan) Vollbrecht of Atkins, IA and Karen (Joseph) Jackson of Lathrop, MO; eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one sister, Connie (Charles “Russell”) Alexander of Green City, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Willie Anderson, and two grandchildren, Christopher Carte and Katie Jo Floyd.
