VINTON: Jessie “Glenn” Bascom, age 93, died Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following an extended illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 20, 2012 at Phillips Family Center (605 Second Avenue) in Vinton with Pastor Ed Kraft officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg with graveside military rites conducted by Ray and Virginia Boyer American Legion Post #166 and Iowa Military Funeral Honors. Friends may call at the Family Center from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. A Memorial Fund has been established.

“Glenn” was born March 16, 1919 at Chandler, OK to Charles and Alice (Jett) Bascom.

“Glenn” proudly served his nation in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged on April 5, 1946.

On September 20, 1939 he married Myrtle “Lucille” Lint at Cedar Rapids. She preceded him in death on June 5, 1990. On November 27, 1991 he married Emiline Zimmerman Gould at Vinton and she preceded him in death on March 4, 2001.

“Glenn” was a self-employed plumber prior to his retirement. In his leisure he enjoyed fishing and camping.

He is survived by his daughter, Sue (Tom) Harrelson of Shellsburg; his step-daughter, Genevieve (Fred) Martin of Oelwein; his son-in-law, Marvin Mettler of Arnolds Park; six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and two wives he was preceded in death by his daughters, Judy Howe and Karen Mettler; his great-granddaughter, Morgan Rose Harrelson; his two brothers, Edgar and Edward Bascom and his sisters, Dorothy Boyles and Lucybell St. Clair.
