Irene Retta Furler passed away peacefully on April 10th at Colonial Manor in Amana at the age of 103 1⁄2.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 20 at St John Lutheran Church in Newhall beginning at 9:30 with the funeral following at 11:00, officiated by Rev. Nick Palmer.  Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery.
Irene was born on September 9, 1922, to Walter & Nola (Koser) Becker. She graduated from Blairstown High School in 1939 and married Arnold Furler on February 10, 1941, at the Lutheran parsonage in Blairstown. Irene lived in her home in Newhall for 76 years. She was a member of multiple bowling leagues, Newhall American Legion & Auxiliary, St John Lutheran Church, and several card clubs. Irene kept a scrapbook from the age of 18 until the age of 99. Irene was an avid quilter. She pieced and quilted 46 quilts for her family over the years and quilted an additional 13 quilts for friends. She was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching college basketball, especially the Hawkeyes and Cyclones. She was a very good cook, with pies and cookies being her specialty.

Irene is survived by her daughter Kathy (Tom) Hannemann and her grandchildren, Cary (Jennifer) Bierschenk, Steve (Monica) Bierschenk, Jeff (Julie) Hannemann, & Kristin (Matt) Craig. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Zach Bierschenk, Ally (Jack) Eakins, Jacob (Jen) Bierschenk, Gabriel and Rachael Bierschenk, Janae (Collin) Erickson, Justin and Jenna Hannemann, Chelsea Boyden (Olivia) and Chase Boyden and several nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Linda (Dennis) Bierschenk, her parents and brothers Dean (Bea) and John (JoAnn) Becker.

The family would like to thank Colonial Manor and Essence of Life Hospice for their great care.
