Betty I. Schuman, 101, of La Porte City, IA, died on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at La Porte City Specialty Care at La Porte City.
She was born on October 22, 1924, in Independence, IA, to Harvey and Gertrude Schultz Howland.

She was a 1942 graduate of Cresco High School.
Betty married Harding A. Schuman on May 4, 1943, in Cresco; he preceded her in death on February 4, 2008.

She worked at Hinson Manufacturing.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, La Porte City.

Betty sang in the choir and was a choir director at the EUB Church; She was 4-H leader and den mother. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, bowling, bingo, playing cards, crocheting, embroidery, puzzles, trips to the casino and most importantly, watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's activities.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Beverly Palmer of La Porte City; daughter, Barbara (Wesley) Walker of Muscatine; son, James (Jan) Schuman of Waterloo; son, Jon (Cindy) Schuman of Johnston; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Raymond Howland and brother, Gerald Howland.
