Obituaries : Patricia “Pat” Lynne Betterton

Patricia “Pat” Lynne Betterton, 81, of Jesup, IA passed away at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, IA on Friday, March 13, 2026. A graveside service to honor John and Pat will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Pat was born on July 12, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, IA. She was born to Charles and Betty (Willer) Neighbor. Pat married the love of her life, John Betterton, on May 3, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, IA. She enjoyed her church family, reading and caring for children. Pat loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Those left to cherish Pat’s memory are her children, Chuck (Kimberly) Betterton, of Shellsburg, IA, Paul (Lisa) Betterton, of Atkins, IA, Becky (Morgan) Kuper, of Jesup, IA, and Matt (Jodie) Betterton, of Vinton, IA; her grandchildren, Morgan, Charlie (Sydney), Keaton (Dakota), Kelsey (Nate), Kaylee (Luke), Katie, Kaden, Kolten, Taylor, Jake (Kate), Paige (Aaron), Sam, Maddie, Jack, Johnathon (Tealya), Scott (Alexis), and Mike; her great-grandchildren, Ivy, Owen, Aly, Charlee, Max, Ruby, Brooks, and one on the way; her siblings, Jon (Linda), and Richard (Mary Ann). She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Jon and Richard, grandson Mike, and her husband John. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Camp Courageous or Cedar Valley Hospice.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Buchanan County Medical Center, especially the hospice department as well as Cedar Valley Hospice.
