Glenn H. Dietrich, 92, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Van Horne, with the Rev. David Lingard officiating. Interment will be held at Keystone Cemetery, with graveside military rites. Visitation will also be held at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone is in charge of arrangements.
Glenn was born Jan. 6, 1919, at Van Horne, to Walter and Anna (Happel) Dietrich, and graduated from the Van Horne High School in 1936. On March 21, 1942, he was united in marriage to Lois Husted at Fort Snelling, Minn. Glenn served his country in the United States Army from 1941 through 1946, attaining the rank of major. He worked in construction his entire life, founding Dietrich Construction in 1964 and retiring in 1984.
He was a life long member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, where he served as a church officer, trustee and elder. He was a past president of the Fellowship Club and the Van Horne Businessmen’s Club and was also a member of Thomas F. Bevins American Legion Post 148 in Van Horne. In his spare time, Glenn enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, wood-burning and fishing.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Lois; two sons, Max (Jacqueline) Dietrich of Mesquite, Nev., and Randy Dietrich of Uttarkashi, India; two grandsons, Tim (Julia) Dietrich of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Craig (Vanessa Vobis) Dietrich of Los Angeles, Calif.; his great-granddaughter, Kaylee Dietrich; and his sister, Marilyn (Alan) Young of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Leona Dietrich; his brother Donavon Dietrich and his wife Lenora; and his sister-in-law, Edna Bergen and her husband, Robert.
A memorial fund has been established for St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church.
