Dale Douglas "Doug" Fowler passed away peacefully at the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha on March 29, 2025 after a long illness that finally maxed out the last of his nine lives.

Just as he wanted, a celebration of life will be held for Doug at the American Legion Hall in Vinton starting at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 5th, 2025. Military Rites and flag presentation will be held at 1:10 PM Saturday, also at the Legion Hall. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Doug was born on August 11,1942 to Lyle and Mary Evelyn (Woods) Fowler in Vinton, Iowa. He was the oldest, and of course the most mature of eight siblings. He graduated from Washington High School in Vinton in 1960. From there he joined the United States Army and served until 1963.

Doug became a father to his only child, Elizabeth Martha, on February 23, 1980. Together they were partners in crime, and she truly has been the great love of his life.

Doug was a dedicated service repairman for Michael & Dowd in Vinton for more than 40 years. In his younger years, Doug had a passion for fitness and exercise, especially for running. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, getting into shenanigans with his brothers, and caring for the many beloved pets he has had over the years.

Doug is survived by his daughter, Liz Henkel, his siblings Mary (Drew) McInroy, Vicki (Craig) Streeter, John (Betty) Fowler, Nancy Kampman, Pete (Danelle) Fowler, Bob (Theresa) Fowler, as well as by many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lyle Junior, his nephew, David Laton, and by his brother-in-law, Ken Kampman.

Doug's family would like to thank the Mercy Medical Center and the Hospice House of Mercy staff for their tremendous care of Doug throughout his illness.
