Paul Edward Mittan, 80, of Blairstown, IA passed away September 16, 2024 at Keystone Care Center, Keystone, IA.
Paul was born September 25, 1943 to Charles Edward and Donna (Usher) Mittan in Cedar Rapids, IA. He attended Roosevelt and Jefferson High Schools in Cedar Rapids. Moving with his family to Blairstown, to enjoy the small-town life, Paul graduated from Blairstown High School.
In 1964 Paul married Marilyn Taschner. They were blessed with two children before going their separate ways but remaining friends.
Paul worked for the butcher shop in Blairstown, meat department in Belle Plaine and the Iowa Department of Transportation. In his extra time, Paul rode and drove with Charlie Wauters, transporting livestock across the United States. In 2000, after 32 years, Paul retired from the IDOT and began working for his daughter and son-in-law at Pippert Hardware in Keystone for 10 years. Retiring a second time in 2010.
Paul enjoyed working with horses, spending time riding and roping with friends. He was an outdoorsman, fishing, and hunting with family and friends. Paul loved his family taking time to attend their activities, events or just being together.
Paul was a member of Saddle Club and Prairie Creek Archers Association.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Angie) of Council Bluffs, Pam (Chris) Pippert of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Braxton (Brittnee) Mittan, Miranda Mittan, Kyla Mittan, Nick (Addie) Pippert, Wes Pippert; great-grandchildren, Ellanor and two on the way; significant other, Carolyn Becker of Blairstown and her family.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents.
Paul's family would like to thank Keystone Care Center and Essence of Life Hospice of Amana for their exceptional care and support provided to Paul and his family.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine. Private family committal.
