Rose Ann McLaughlin, 88, formally of Belle Plaine, died Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Teahen Funeral Home, by Chaplain Rick Sparks. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home.

Rose is survived by her son, Steven (Donna Anderson) McLaughlin of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Susan (Scott) Underwood, of Cedar Rapids; stepsons, Wayne McLaughlin Jr. of Dennison and Frank McLaughlin of Lenexa, KS; stepdaughters, Tamara (Daryl) Friedhof and Chandra (Matt) Younie both of Lakeside; sister Genese Swanson of Armstrong; grandchildren, Dayna, Serenity, Baylee, Vincent, Bobbie, and Cale; and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Wayne; brother, Henry Thompson; sister, Marge (George) Miller; and brother-in-law, Harold Swanson.

Rose was born on December 19, 1935, at her home in Rolfe, Iowa the daughter of Hans and Henrietta Bargman Thompson. In 1954 she graduated from Seneca High School; from Waldorf College in 1956 with a certificate in Elementary Education, and later attended Mankato State University. Rose married Wayne McLaughlin on August 9, 1968, in Sioux Falls, SD. Rose and Wayne moved to Perry, Iowa until 1974 and then to Belle Plaine, Iowa for 50 years. Rose was a nanny in Chicago for 8 years for the Andrew Brainerd family and was a waitress at the Golden Bear nightclub in Huntington Beach, CA, where she met many famous musicians. Her final job was at Belle Plaine Care Center for 30 years.

Rose liked painting rocks, camping, reading, and tending to the beautiful flowers she grew in her garden. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Canada. Most of all Rose cherished time with her family and will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
