Norma Lou Kerr, age 81, of West Union, Iowa passed away surrounded by her family early on Wednesday morning March 20, 2024 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union.
Norma was born on April 13, 1942 at home on the family farm near Garnavillo, Iowa to Walter and Lucille (Lenth) Behnken. She graduated from Postville High School and then married her husband Donald Kerr on June 17, 1961 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Deanna, Barbara and David.
Norma always put family first and never knew the word NO when asked to volunteer. She was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, IA, but had been attending Zion Lutheran Church in West Union the last few years, and enjoyed volunteering, teaching Sunday School, Bible School and serving on many committees over the years. She made our world a brighter, better place.
Norma loved being involved in 4-H as a youth and was a 4-H leader when her children were in 4-H. She also was a judge at Arca County Fairs 4-H projects for over 35 years. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa.
Norma was proceeded in death by her husband Don on April 14, 2003, her daughter Deanna (Rex Fox) Kerr on August 29, 2020 and her brother Alan Behnken.
Survived by her children, Barbara Tracey of Shellsburg, Iowa and David (Cindy) Kerr of Buckeye, Arizona; three grandchildren, Cameron (Sara) Kerr, Mariah (fiancé, Jason Brous) Kerr and Joshua Tracey. Also survived by a sister, Janet Clement.
A memorial service will be Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 130 S Washington St, West Union, Iowa 52175 where you may visit with the family from 9:00 am until time of service.
Inurnment will take place after the service at Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, West Union, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
