Donald Dean (Don) Anders, age 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Colonial Manor in Amana.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 21, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, with Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery, following the luncheon at the church. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, also at the church. A memorial fund has been established.

Don was born on June 27, 1933, in Keystone, the son of Wilbert and Lillian (Heitman) Anders. He graduated from Keystone High School. On April 18, 1952, he was united in marriage to Doris Smith at Little Bit of Heaven in Davenport. Doris preceded Don in death in 2001. On February 14, 2003, Don married Joan (Baldwin) Werning at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall.

Don worked for Wholesale Foods and in 1970, Don moved to Newhall, and founded the House of Chairs in Newhall, later renamed Country Floors and Interiors, which continues as a family business to this day. Don was also a partner in Countryview Apartments in Newhall.

Don was an excellent accordion player and played in area bands for most of his life. He loved to play at area care centers, entertaining the residents for many years. He often played with his grandson Jason, who also plays the accordion. In his spare time, Don enjoyed trips to Canada, bear hunting and fishing, and enjoyed trips to Branson in keeping with his love of music. Don loved helping his son-in-law Galen with field work in the spring and fall.

Don is survived by his wife Joan; son Alan (Diana) Anders, all of Newhall; daughter Linda (Galen) Kerkman of Van Horne; son-in-law, David Kerker of Newhall; step-children, Sheryl (Jerry) Brehm of Cedar Rapids, Steve (Barb) Werning of Urbandale; grandchildren, Jason (Lorie) Kerkman, Slade Kerkman, Desi (Kaleb) Dietze, Justice (Jose Chavarria) Kerkman, Dillion Kerkman, Andrew Kerkman, Chelsey Anders, Bryce Anders of Vinton; 3 step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Preslyn, Brant, Cooper, Athena, and Mateo; 8 step-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Darwin Anders of Colorado Springs, CO.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris; son Randy Anders; daughter Deanna Kerker; granddaughter Courtney Anders in infancy; and his brother Delbert Anders.
