Hope (Sankot) Rogers

Hope (Sankot) Rogers, age 99, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 30, 2023, at her home in Vinton.

At Hope's request, she has been cremated, and there will be no services.

Hope was born on February 4, 1924, in Belle Plaine, IA, the daughter of Frank J. and Frances (Heller) Sankot. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School. On October 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Rogers in Belle Plaine. Robert preceded her in death in 1984.

Hope worked as a legal secretary for many years, and was elected as a Benton County Supervisor, serving from 1973 through 1980.

She is survived by her children, Mary Catherine Rogers of Cedar Rapids, Jeanne (Patrick) Swift of Cedar Rapids, Crystal Evens of Vinton, Anthony (Sharon) Rogers of Vinton; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband Robert, she was preceded in death by her son Robert Carl Rogers, and daughter-in-law Rosanne; 5 brothers, F.L., Albert, Herbert, Roy, and Otto Sankot; 1 sister Helen Whelan; and her great-granddaughter, Lainey Robertson.

RB November 2, 2023, 12:51 pm Mary and family. So sorry that you lost your mother. Hope was the hope that more women would be involved in politics, as well as for the just plain old good for Vinton,and Benton County. Loved her letters to the editor,even if not totally agreeing. One conversation, at a meeting she told us ladies, "tough- then make a change".That was Hope. Don't like what's happening,she seemed to always do something to get it fixed. Great author also. Take care dear friends.
