Jerold Keith Peterson, age 81, of Ames, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023 at his home in Ames. He was born on March 26, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 10:30 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, 609 Giddings Street in Kelley, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley. Burial will be in the Bethany Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Jerold graduated from Ballard High School in 1960. He worked at the National Animal Disease Laboratory in Ames for 43 years. He was a lifelong farmer and raised sheep on their farm, Outback Sheep Works. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley. Jerold custom-baled hay for himself and other farmers in the area. He met the love of his life, Joyce Elaine Jordan, while in high school. They were united in marriage on April 4, 1964 at the United Methodist Church in Nevada, Iowa. There were two children to this union, Jarrett and Jennifer.

Jerold enjoyed woodworking and visiting with his friends and neighbors. He would not turn down a good cup of coffee on his deck with family or friends. He also liked to watch Hallmark movies and Westerns. He and Joyce attended ISU Volleyball games and rooted for the Cyclones' other sporting events throughout the year. He loved to go camping near and far with his family. Most of all, he dearly loved spending time with his family. He was a proud father and grandfather who was delighted to show pictures of his children's and grandchildren's achievements. He was a devout family man, kind and wonderful to all he met. Jerold would do anything for a friend at the drop of a hat.

Jerold is preceded in death by his son, Jarrett Peterson and his parents, Ronald and Erma (Peterson) Fjelland. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Peterson; daughter, Jennifer (Brian) Kreutner; daughter-in-law, Melanie Peterson; five grandchildren, Sarah (Luke) Heilman, Jonathon (fiancée, Marianne Nebelsick) Kreutner, Sophia Kreutner, Kjistine Peterson and Rachel Peterson; one great grandson, Oliver Heilman; brother, Duane Fjelland; sister-in-law, Linda Hansen; two nieces, Laura (Todd) Teske and Letitia (Hugo) Kenemer; one great niece, Kira Marcott and one great nephew, Harvey Kenemer.

Memorials may be directed to the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley, Iowa in memory of Jerold.
