Obituaries : Edward "Ed" Virgil Wilson

Edward "Ed" Virgil Wilson, 75, of Urbana died on Friday, October 21, 2022. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Brandon Community Center on Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 3-7:00 p.m. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Edward and his family.

Ed is survived by Dwight Craft; two daughters: Tennille (Michael) Fain of Marion and Lindsey Seegers (Shane) of Denver; three granddaughters: Mckayla, Elizabeth and Reagan; two sisters: Madeline (Mike) Knowlton of Charles City and Carol Roy of Cedar Rapids; along with many, many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Edward Wilson and Alberta Ethel Wilson; two brothers: Alvin and Claire; and two sisters: Margaret and Janet.

Ed was born on April 25, 1947, and grew up on the family farm in Colwell with his parents and 6 siblings. They grew up with the saying "Yours, Mine and Ours". He was a graduate of Charles City High School, class of 1965, and went on to graduate from cosmetology school in 1968. Ed was a US Army Veteran serving in Vietnam. In 1970 Ed married Rhonda Wilson (Havner) and had 2 daughters, Tennille and Lindsey. Ed went on to meet and form a lifelong partnership with Dwight Craft, with whom he owned and operated Winds Reach Antiques in Urbana for over 30 years.

From an early age, Ed always had a love for horses. He was a well-known and talented horseman. Throughout his lifetime of riding, he made many wonderful friends and memories. He is survived by RJ Chips Prom Date "Chips" of Urbana.

Ed lived by his motto "You only go around once in life, you gotta grab all the gusto you can!" All who knew him could count on making the best of wherever you were. Whether it was riding the trails, singing karaoke at the weekly get-togethers in Hazleton or just hanging around enjoying friends and family, you could always count on a great story and a laugh.

Instead of flowers, memorials can be sent through the family for a commemorative bench and donations to a local equestrian youth program.
