Edith Darlene (Walser Cook) Suchomel, age 99, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Unity Point St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, with her family by her side, after suffering an apparent stroke.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Oak Grove Church in rural Shellsburg with Pastor Matt Magee and David Upah as co-officiants. Interment will be held at Center Point Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or the Make A Wish Foundation in Edith's Name.

Edith was born on September 4, 1922 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Earl S. and Mabel R (Krouse) Walser. Edith graduated from Toddville High School with the class of 1940, where she excelled at 6 on 6 basketball.

Edith was united in marriage to Marshall Cook in 1941. To this union, two children were born, Gary Michael Cook, born in 1947, and Connie Cook born in 1950. Marshall preceded Edith in death in 1955. She was united in marriage to Frank Suchomel in 1957 and the couple were married until Frank's death in 2003.

Edith worked as a teacher's aide at Center Point Consolidated Schools, and later worked as a secretary-receptionist alongside Frank at Suchomel Chevrolet in Center Point for over 30 years. She was active in her community, as a member of the Eastern Star for over 60 years; a member of the Center Point American Legion Auxiliary; and a past president of the CWF of the Center Point Christian Church. Presently, Edith enjoyed membership in the Oak Grove Church. Edith was very fortunate in her last years to have many wonderful young friends and caregivers to spend time with, who enabled her to remain in her rural home until a few days ago.

Edith is survived by her son Gary Michael (Sherrill Yoder) Cook of Iowa City; daughter Connie (Keith) Copeland of Wellman; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her brother Kenneth (Sandy) Walser of California.

In addition to her parents, and husband's Marshall, and Frank, she was preceded in death by 2 grandsons; her great-granddaughter; 2 sisters, Genevieve E. Kucera, and Maxine Wagner; and 2 brothers, Lee Ray Walser, and Gerald Walser.
