Chad W. Geater, age 49, of Ames, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames, Iowa.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 28, 2022, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 2210 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa 50014. The Mass will be livestreamed and a link will be available on the Tribute Wall of Chad's obituary on the Adams Funeral Home website. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. The family suggests the use of facemasks.

Chandler William Geater was born March 24, 1973, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Roger and Mary (Ternus) Geater. Chad treasured his time growing up on the family farm, near Vinton, Iowa, and spending time with his older brother Brent. He was a church, 4H and FFA member.

In 1991, Chad graduated from Washington High School in Vinton. He then went on to Iowa State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy.

Chad was united in marriage to his best friend and high school sweetheart, Christine Greazel, on June 3, 1995, in West Liberty, Iowa.

In 2000, Chad earned a PhD in Plant Breeding from Iowa State University and began his career at Syngenta. While at Syngenta he held various roles over the years and was named a Fellow in 2019.

Chad was a life long learner in his work and personal life. He enjoyed plant breeding and statistics, as well as walking the fields and sharing ideas. Chad especially loved learning about, with, and from his children.

Chad's hobbies included fishing, homebrewing, cooking, reading, board games, British television shows and watching sports. He was a beginning gardener. Chad belonged to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Teams of Our Lady and the Knights of Columbus.

Chad is survived by his wife, Christine Geater of Ames; five children, Thomas, Nathan, Madison, Samantha and Monica all of Ames; mother, Mary Geater of Vinton; brother, Brent (Barb) Geater of Vinton; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Delline Greazel of Atalissa, Iowa; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann (Dave) Kaska of Solon, Iowa, Jeff (Ashley) Greazel of Wilton, Iowa, Tim (Mary Ann) Greazel of Bettendorf, Iowa, Valerie (Shaun) Lambertsen of Martelle, Iowa, and Melissa (Jason) D'Agata of Trinity, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Geater in 2021.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family and mailed to the Adams Funeral Home c/o Chad Geater family, P.O. Box 745, Ames, IA 50010.
