Donald R. Benter, 78 years old, died on Thursday, October 31, 2019, at his home in Independence, Iowa. He was born on May 6, 1941, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Rudolph and Beatrice Fern (McFarland) Benter. He graduated from high school in Manchester, Iowa. On July 31, 1980, he and the former Coletta Jean Bergom were married in Vinton, Iowa. Mr. Benter was a painter at Abco Engineering in Oelwein, Iowa, before retiring in 2004. He enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards the rest of the time.

Mr. Benter is survived by his wife of 39 years, Coletta, 2 sons, David (Bobbie) Benter pf Cresco, Iowa, and Dean Benter of Valley City, North Dakota, 3 stepdaughters, Bobbie (David) Benter of Cresco, Tina (Dave) Martin of Independence, Theresa Buchholz of Toledo, Iowa, and 1 daughter, Pam (Jim) Brahn of Nashua, Iowa. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 1 sister, Carol Cannon of Liberal, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Ray Capehart, and 2 brothers.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Pastor Stephen Moore officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Online condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com.
