Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Norway Fire Department or Essence of Life Hospice. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.hrabakfuneralhome.com. A private family graveside service will be on Thursday at Mound Cemetery, Watkins.
Norman was born Sept. 6, 1929, to Edward and Elsie (McNee) Miller in Traer, Iowa. He graduated from Norway High School. Following school, he worked the family farm until joining the U.S. Air Force in 1951. On June 9, 1952, Norman married Elaine Ann Swick in Norway. The couple was stationed at George Air Force Base in Victorville, Calif. Upon returning home from the Air Force in 1955, Norman helped his father farming, until they purchased their own farm in 1959. Together the couple farmed, owned and operated Miller and Sons Trucking. He was a hardworking farmer, from which he never really retired. If someone needed help he would be the first in line to lend a hand.
Norman was a member of the Eagles Club and Norway American Legion. In his youth, Norman was a good dancer and enjoyed taking Elaine out dancing and playing cards. Norman liked tinkering and loved being around family and grandchildren, paying them a quarter for a good-bye kiss and always having Snickers in the tractor for them.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elaine of Norway; sons, Darrell (Kathy), Kevin (Deanna) and Glen (Lisa), all of Norway; daughter, Karen Pegump of Walford; grandchildren, Brian (Joy) Miller, Mark (Amanda) Miller, Melissa (Andrew) Merritt, Monika (Brennen) Jacobsen, Colin Douglas, Anna (Tyler) Smith, Robert Freese, Colton, Holly and Tyler Miller, Chad and Greg Pegump and Amanda (Troy) Krahmer; great-grandchildren, Evan, Brenden, Kalyssa, Riley, Piper, Miles, Nolan, Maddox, Maddison, Camryn, Tyson and Liberty; and brother, Robert Miller of Norway.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Mathew Miller.
Brosh Funeral Service of Norway is assisting the family.
