SHELLSBURG:  John Michael Floyd, 66 died Saturday, July 21, 2018 at his home following an extended illness.  The family is at peace knowing that John is finally at rest from his battle with Multiple Sclerosis and many other health issues.  Military Rites will be conducted by the Ray and Virginia Boyer American Legion Post #166 and the United States Navy Funeral Honors at 11 AM, Friday, July 27, 2018 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. John Michael Floyd was born January 6, 1952 the son of Daniel Walter and Helen Marie Comley Floyd.  He graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School in 1972 and enlisted in the United States Navy.  He served in the United States Navy Nuclear Submarine Fleet.  He was honorably discharged on June 2, 1976.  Upon completion of his time in the Navy, John was united in marriage to Jacqueline Castorf Dye on June 9, 1979 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fairfax.  John worked at Norand in Cedar Rapids as an electronics technician until his health would no longer allow it. In his leisure, John loved DIY shows, car shows and the History Channel.  He was a genuine craftsman and could do about anything with his hands.  He loved his family dearly especially his great grandson, who called him Papa. John is survived by his wife, Jackie of Shellsburg; his son, Nathan and Dusty Floyd; grandchildren, Skie and Johnny Buck and their son, Orien who dearly loved his Papa and Michael Floyd; his step-children, Shannon and Cindy Dye of Reno, NV and their children, James, Patrick and Paige, Quentin and Ving Dye of Jacksonville, FL and their children, Tyler and Dean, Dennis and Amber Dye of Palo and their children, Luke, Logan and Levi; his twin sister, Jeanette and Harold McCormick of Fairfax, his sisters, Linda Jansa of Center Point, and Ruth Maxwell of Ottumwa and many nieces and nephews.  Also surviving are his two dogs and two cats whom he loved dearly, Zoiey, Munchkin, Aria and Tia.
