VINTON: Ann L. Welter, age 85, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart, where she had been a resident for the past two years. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th St.) in Vinton with Pastor Mike Ferguson officiating. Interment will be held at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Friends may call from 9:00 until 10:00 am on Monday at the Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established. Ann was born on October 25, 1932 in Great Falls, Montana the daughter of Augustine and Viola (Cox) McDermott. She graduated from East High School in Waterloo with the class of 1950. On March 5, 1953, she was united in marriage to Vincent Welter in Waterloo. Ann worked as a clerk at JC Penny in Waterloo for 22 years and lived in Waterloo most of her life, until moving to Vinton in February, 2009. She is survived by her children, Michelle (Jeff) Matheny of Van Horne and Doug Welter of Vinton; her grandchildren, Tony Olson, Tamie Matheny (Paul Erger) and Matt (Stephanie) Matheny; her great-grandchildren, Tate Kettler, Ashlyn and Caden Erger, Nate and Gabe Matheny Makayla and Makenna Olson; her brothers, Richard (Marie) McDermott and William (Donna) McDermott; her sister-in-law Lenora McDermott; and many nieces and nephews.
