Obituaries : Delbert Theodore "Ted" Rice

SHELLSBURG: Delbert Theodore 'Ted" Rice, 63, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Heritage Specialty Care in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6^thSt. in Vinton with Pastor Mike Ferguson officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established. "Ted" was born December 13, 1954 in Vinton to Delbert and Christine (Climer) Rice and graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1974. He was employed at Pepsi Bottling and later at General Mills in Cedar Rapids. "Ted" was an avid Cubs and Bears Fan and enjoyed Bingo, scratch tickets and watching sports. He is survived by his brothers, Larry (Nancy Kirk) Rice of Garrison and Robert (Retta) Rice of Vinton; his nieces, Rilda (Tim) Gustafson of Keystone, Deb (Marty) Hayes of Center Point; his nephews, Denny (Cathy) Rice of Vinton and Brian (Toni) Rice of Indiana; and many great nieces and nephews; and one great-great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Nicky Climer; his sister, Lois Jean Rice; his sister-in-law, Janet Rice and his niece, Barb Kessel.
