NEWHALL: William C. Much, 75, of Newhall, went home to our Lord on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at St Luke's Hospital following a sudden illness.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 26, from 4-7 pm, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall. Memorial service will be Wednesday, December 27, at 10:30 am, also at St. John with Rev. David Lingard officiating. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery with full military rites conducted bythe John Ward McGranahan American Legion Post #67, Benton County 40 - 8 Voiture 625 and Iowa Military Funeral Honors, with a lunch to follow at the church. Born June 25, 1942, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Alvin and Irene (Thomas) Much. November 20, 1971, he married Susan Kay Grovert in Rockton, IL.
Bill was a 1960 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Burlington. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1967, then worked as a self-employed contractor until his retirement.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Newhall; John Ward McGranahan American Legion Post 167, where he was past commander and the 40 & 8. He served on Newhall City Council for over 30 years.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sue; daughters Nicole (Jeremy) Langerman of Atkins, IA, and Melissa Much (Xavier Koenig) of New Haven, CT; grandchildren Jordan and Austin McFarland, Benjamin Langerman, Sebastian, Genevieve and Dominic Koenig; siblings Donna Miller, Shirley Simms, Daryl Much and Jackie (Everett) Sapp; In-laws Don and Joan Grovert; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers in childhood, sister Helen Barnes and brother Loren Much.
Bill truly loved time spent with family and friends, fishing, bowling, the Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for St. John Lutheran Church, John Ward McGranahan American Legion Post 167, Newhall First Responders and Iowa Donor Network.
