Obituaries : Andy R. Gates

BRANDON:
     Andy R. Gates, 48, died Wednesday, August 23, 2016 at University Of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following an extended illness.
     A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton with Father Ardel Barta officiating.  Interment will be held at the Brandon Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m., on Monday.  A memorial fund has been established.
     Andy was born October 20, 1967 in Vinton to Robert and Margo (Saddoris) Gates and graduated from the Independence High School.  He then attended Tech School in Calmar, Iowa.
     Andy was a carpenter and member of Carpenter’s Union #308 in Cedar Rapids.  He loved fishing and was an avid duck hunter.
     He is survived by his parents, Robert and Margo Gates of Brandon; and his children, Jocelyn, Andrew and Hunter Gates of LaPorte Citiy.
     He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Anna Jaeger.
