VINTON – Connie Bauer, 66, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following a brief battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Brandon United Methodist Church with Rev. Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating. Visitation will be held at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Following services, Connie’s wishes were to be cremated, and private family inurnment will be held in Brandon Cemetery at a later date.
Connie Marie Edna Bauer was born October 2, 1949, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton to Walter and Lucille Kavalier Bauer. She attended Brandon Consolidated School through the 8th grade and then attended Washington High School in Vinton, graduating in 1967. She was a long-time employee of Virginia Gay Hospital, working as a Lab Technician and retiring in April of 2015.
Connie’s life was dedicated to her family and work. She loved spending time with her loved ones and going to family reunions. She also loved crocheting, reading, knitting and enjoyed trips to Wal-Mart.
Connie is survived by her siblings: LaVon (Robert) Bearbower, Walter (Sharon) Bauer and Steve Bauer, all of Brandon; Karen Johnson of Lena, IL; and Bruce Bauer and Sherri McGowan, both of Vinton; and three generations of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law Janice and Larry Truax; brother-in-law Robert Johnson; sisters-in-law Carla and Lori Bauer; and two great-nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
