VINTON – Marvin D. “Marv” Hite, 78, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, May 28, 2016, due to natural causes.

A celebration of Marv’s life will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016, at First Christian Church in Vinton with Rev. Dave Neas officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Marv was born October 4, 1937, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Harold LaVerne and Eileen Marcella Reynolds Hite. He graduated from Washington High School in Vinton and attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, for 2 years.
Marv married Jane King in 1961, and the couple later divorced. On July 29, 1978, Marv was united in marriage with Marilyn “Sam” Mahr.
Marv worked as a heavy equipment operator for B.L. Anderson, Vulcan Materials and Wendling Quarries, retiring in 2001.
Marv was a high school jock, playing football, basketball and running track. He was inducted into the Washington High School Hall of Fame. His love of sports continued into adulthood, and he enjoyed playing softball and racquetball. His passion was golf, and he made 6 hole-in-ones during his golf career.
Marv is survived by his wife, Sam, of Vinton; two sons: Tony (Shelly) Hite of Palo and Dan Hite of Cedar Rapids; two daughters: Lisa Van Wechel of Cedar Rapids and Susan (Mark) McCormick of Bloomington, IL; step-daughter Angela Dobler of Marion; three brothers: Mike (Becky) Hite of Gresham, OR; Richard Hite of Mill Valley, CA; and Gary (Jackie) Hite of Vacaville, CA; one sister, Lynda Nelson of Pittsburg, KS; 11 grandchildren: Seth, Abbi, Michael, Valerie, Tyler, Seala, Clarissa, Carson, Issabell, Spencer and Cooper; 5 great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Brooklyn, Nolan, Drake and Sam; and nieces and nephews: Jeff, Shelley, Jennifer, Kelly, Jessica, Bishop, John, Joe, Keeley, Ursula, Mark, Brad, Tony, Allen and Mindy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jim and Steve Hite; brother-in-law Lee Nelson; and niece Tracy Nelson.
A memorial fund has been established.
