Obituaries : Wayne B. Secor

Wayne B. Secor, 84, of Leander, Texas and formerly from Waterloo and Vinton, Iowa died peacefully from a short illness surrounded by his family on January 28, 2016.

Wayne was born on January 24, 1932, in Cedar Falls, Iowa a son of Bernard Charles Ackerson and Dorothy Leala Yockstick. He was later adopted by Dorothy's husband, John Ray Secor.

Wayne married Shirley Walsh on September 18, 1949 in Waverly Iowa.Wayne worked as a milkman for Home Town Dairies twenty plus years to support his young family and to obtain his dream of becoming a master carpenter. He loved being the catcher for Home Town Dairy's softball team, bowling, playing cards, horseshoes and especially passionate about fishing and doing ceramics with Shirley. Most of all, he was always there with his supportive love for his family and friends. His family was his circle of life.

He is survived by one son, John G. (Lynn) Secor of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four daughters, Ranae Griego of Leander, Texas, Connie Westcott of Vinton, Iowa, Cheri (Mike) Ambrose of Leander, Texas and Carol (Craig Elguezabal) Secor of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one brother Robert Ackerson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one half-brother, Herman (Willene) Ackerson of California; one half-sister, Mrs. Judy (Dave) McFerran of Illinois; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his parents, his adopted father, his maternal and paternal grandparents, two brothers, Charles Ackerson of Sumner, Iowa, and Keith Ackerson of Dewar, Iowa and hone half-brother, Bernard Ackerson of Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held at Cedar Heights Baptist Church, 2430 Neola St, Cedar Falls, Iowa on February 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kevin Wilkening officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 am until the service at 11:00 am at the church.
